We’ve talked about the addictiveness of video games on this blog before, but we’ve never actually taken the time to look at why they are so addictive. One of the main reason why they can be so highly addictive is because of the way in which they are designed.
Video game designers are always searching for ways to urge more people play their games and the spread the word. They accomplish this by making a game just challenging enough to keep you returning for more, but not so hard that the player eventually gives up. It’s all about finding this perfect balance. It’s what makes a designer great! In other words, success for a gamer often feels just out of reach. If you’re worried that you’re hooked into gaming, here are a couple of of the most symptoms:
- Feelings of restlessness and/or irritability when unable to play
- Preoccupation with thoughts of previous online activity or anticipation of subsequent online session
- Lying to friends or relations regarding the quantity of your time spent playing
- Isolation from others so as to spend longer gaming
