The Importance of Talking About Gaming

Games

When you have children, there is likely to be a time where they become interested in gaming, whether this is online or offline gaming. But when this time occurs it is important that you talk to them. So, what do you need to talk about with your children with regards to gaming?

Firstly, you will want to talk to your children about safety. This is especially important with online gaming as you want to ensure your children are being safe. This is not always a safe place to be. Ensuring your children have a full understanding of the dangers will be best.

Another aspect you will need to talk to them about is your own expectations. Talk to them about the games they are allowed to play. Talk to them about how long they are allowed to play for. Setting these clear expectations will make parenting around gaming easier.

Let’s Talk – Gaming and Friendship

Games

On our blog, we have been sharing with you our Let’s Talk series. Today on the series we are going to be discussing gaming and friendship. How can you create friendships through gaming and is this truly safe?

Making friendships through gaming is easy, especially if you play games online. You will be chatting to people online who are interested in the same games that you are playing. You will be able to find friendships with people with similar interests this way.

However, with creating friendships online you do need to be extremely careful no matter what your age is. There are a lot of dangerous people out there and they do use online gaming platforms as their area to plan attacks. This can be anything from online bullying, sexual harassment, to potential murder. You will need to be careful with what information you share and who you trust online. Some people out there will be honest, but until you have seen them over video, you need to be careful who you trust as people will lie.

Sharing personal information through online gaming platforms should be avoided at all costs. You will not be able to know truly who the person is on this platform. You should only consider sharing personal information when you know the person when you have met the person away from your home in a public place.

Creating friendships through online gaming platforms is possible, but it is dangerous. You need to keep yourself as safe as possible and think about every possible outcome. Do not trust everyone as some of these people may not be safe. Consider video chatting, meeting in a public place with other friends or keeping the friendship online. Keep yourself as safe as possible.

You may also find that it becomes more difficult for you to feel happy. With you possibly beginning to suffer from depression. This will be due to the more time you are spending inside gaming. Should Children Play Violent Video Games?

Games

Gaming is a hobby for people of all ages, with many more children becoming interested in gaming and wanting to participate. But video and online games which are being released are becoming more violent and graphic. We would advise you to keep your children away from these violent games for as long as possible as it can affect the way they act. Yes, violent games do allow you to distress, but they are not overly suitable for children. The choice is always yours as a parent, but we would recommend you watching gameplay footage of the games your children are asking for before you purchase them. This way you know what they will be viewing and if it is suitable for them. Some violent games are made suitable for younger children, such as Minecraft and Fortnight, but you still need to be wary with the online settings as adults also play these, so foul language may be heard.
